Ever is a two-part installation reflecting on the relationship between memory, intimacy, and automation.
The first part is an online platform (ever.metzger.love) that generates future diary entries using a language model trained on the artist’s personal memories from 2010 to the present. Each new entry, written by the AI based on summaries of nearby dates to maintain narrative coherence, is transformed into an NFT and made public, becoming the property of its creator. The result is an artificial memory, impersonal yet deeply resembling the original, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction, between emotional data and actual fact. Over time, the model repeats itself, unable to evolve: the same theses, desires, and failures chase each other endlessly, freezing the future in an iterative and unchanging present. With each new version of the model, the artist opens a new “chapter,” entrusting their narrative to ever-changing entities and raising questions about ownership and the authorship of identity.
The second part of the work is an immersive environment composed of white rugs and cushions beneath a ceiling projection of the generated texts. The bright and suspended space evokes a threshold between worlds, inviting the audience to lie down and physically engage with a narrative that is at once deeply personal and disorienting. Ever interrogates the forms of subjectivity in the era of algorithmic delegation and proposes a delicate tension between exposure and distance, between autobiography and loss of self.
